Seventy-five years of marriage
Melbourne and Esther Clark will celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary on Nov. 17,2018.
Melbourne Clark and the former Esther Westurn were married Nov. 17, 1943, in Malone by Rev. Floyd Phelps. Their wedding attendants were Miss Vera Westurn, sister of the bride and Mrs. Gertrude Bowen, sister of the groom.
Mr. Clark served in the Army Air Force during World War II from 1942 to 1946 as a military policeman, ending his service in Okinawa. Afterward, Mr. and Mrs. Clark purchased a farm near West Bangor located on llB. They ran the farm and also worked at Tru-Stitch, in Malone for many years. They later sold the farm.
Mr. Clark retired from Kraft Food Inc., North Lawrence, in 1987. Mrs. Clark retired from Tru-Stitch in 1987 after working there for 28 years.
The couple had five children, Phyllis Kemp and her husband Gary, of Louisville, Ky., Karen Keen of Butler, Mo., Jane LaValley of Morrisonville, N.Y., Carolyn Showers and her husband, Larry, of Churchville, N.Y. and Keith Clark and his wife Melanie of Plattsburgh. Two sons-in-law have passed away, George LaValley in 2006 and, David Keen in 2017.
The couple also has 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and one great great-grand-daughter.
Their children are planning an open house at The Alice Center in Malone on Saturday, November 17 between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to celebrate this very special anniversary. For those who are not able to attend a shower of cards for them may be sent to The Alice Center, 45 6th St., Malone, NY 12953.
